The Google Ads auction

The highest bid is not the top spot

Position comes from the bid multiplied by the quality of the ad. That is how you can pay less and still rank higher.

28 Kč bid9/10 quality252 ad rank
35 Kč bid6/10 quality210 ad rank
42 Kč bid4/10 quality168 ad rank

Bid × quality = ad rank. The lowest bid takes first place because its ad answers what the person was looking for.

A demonstration of the auction mechanics. The advertisers, their domains, the bids and the quality scores are invented and belong to no real company.

Search engine optimization

The site exists. In search results it does not.

  • Indexing, canonical tags, robots, sitemaps, redirects, internal links and page speed checked
  • Search demand researched separately in each working language rather than translated from one list
  • Site structure, metadata and final on-page copy written for the pages that need to answer that demand
  • Google Business Profile, Firmy.cz and Mapy.cz set up or improved for local visibility
  • Small technical and content changes implemented; larger changes specified and verified after development
  • No link outreach or paid link placement

  • Instagram, Telegram and organic Facebook selected according to the role and audience of the channel
  • Profiles, pinned material, links and content topics prepared around a clear next step
  • Posts written and adapted from client material, with briefs for photography and video where needed

Analytics and conversions

Visitors arrive, enquiries are few, and where people leave is invisible. Every engagement starts here: until conversions are measured, there is nothing to optimize.

  • A measurement plan for enquiries, measurable calls, bookings, purchases and meaningful intermediate actions
  • GA4, Google Tag Manager, advertising tags and consent behaviour audited for missing or duplicate events
  • Straightforward analytics setups and small site changes implemented directly
  • Complex CMS, application and non-standard integrations specified for the client’s developer and verified afterwards
  • Platform discrepancies explained through attribution rules, consent and implementation checks
  • Dashboards, metric definitions and conversion-path findings documented
  • Technical implementation and testing only; legal advice and privacy or cookie documents are outside the service

Email campaigns and advertising in mobile apps are added where they support the main work. Neither is taken on as a project of its own.

How we work

Four steps, and what each one needs from you

The middle column is about your time. People ask about it before they ask about the price.

  1. 01 / 04

    Review

    We do
We look at what is already set up, what the statistics show, and what counts as an enquiry in this particular business.
    From you
Read access to the accounts and statistics, plus half an hour of conversation.
    You keep
The review in writing — your document: what the numbers show and what needs fixing first.
  2. 02 / 04

    Plan and contract

    We do
What happens in the first months, what budget the platforms need, what counts as a result. The price is named here — before the review any figure would be guesswork.
    From you
A decision, a signature, accounts registered to your company, and your card for paying the platforms.
    You keep
A contract with the scope written down and the terms for ending it.
  3. 03 / 04

    Setup and launch

    We do
Measurement goes in first, then the campaigns, then the ads, and then everything goes live. How long it takes depends on the number of platforms, the state of the site and how fast the material arrives.
    From you
Material, access to the site, and a check of the ad texts before launch.
    You keep
Running campaigns inside your own account and a report you open yourself.
  4. 04 / 04

    Management and reporting

    We do
Weekly: search queries, negative keywords, bids. Monthly: a written report of what changed, what was done and what comes next.
    From you
Feedback on the quality of the enquiries. A conversion in the account is not a sale, and without your judgment the optimization runs blind.
    You keep
The report, access to all the data, and a phone number with a person behind it.

What is promised is visibility, not a result: on any day you can see what was spent, on which queries, and what turned into an enquiry.

AI in practice

The machine tries the variants. A person answers for them.

The platforms really do handle a great deal on their own: automated bidding, generated ads, audience matching. The question is who sets the task and what data they learn from.

  • The platforms’ automated strategies

Google AI Max, Meta Advantage+ and conversion maximizing in Sklik work through combinations of bids, audiences and placements that nobody would work through by hand.

A person decides: what counts as a conversion and what limits the automation runs inside. Nonsense going in is nonsense coming out, and the input is set by a person.

  • Generating ad variants

Twenty headline options per ad group instead of the two or three you can write by hand in the same time.

A person decides: which of them are untrue. A model will happily write “the best prices in Prague”, and it is you who answers for that.

  • Reading large exports

Nobody reads thousands of rows of search queries by hand; a model groups them by meaning. Reviews and email threads show the words a customer uses for their own problem.

A person decides: what to switch off and what to open up as a campaign of its own.

  • Three languages, three originals

A draft in Czech, English and Russian takes minutes.

A person decides: how it actually reads. A literal translation into Czech is audible from the first line, so the rewriting is done by hand. This site was made exactly that way.

  • AI does not shorten the work. It raises the number of variants checked in the same time, and the checking, the comparing and the answering still belong to a person.

Who runs the campaigns

Vadim Kryuchkov

Founder of targetLAB · in online marketing since 2010

Education University degree in marketing, thesis on Google Ads

I have been in online marketing since 2010. I started at an internet agency in sales, explaining to clients what they were paying for and then answering for it. By 2014, when I left, I was heading its advertising department.

In July 2015 I founded targetLAB in Prague and have run it ever since: paid advertising, search, social media, conversion tracking. The same work as before, except that now I choose what to take on and answer for it to the client directly.

In practice that means the account is run by the person you spoke to on the first call: the brief does not travel down a chain and come back retold. A decision on a campaign is made the same day, not after a week of approvals. And what I see in your numbers you hear at the start, before there is any contract to sign.

Questions

What people ask before they say yes

What does it cost?

These are two separate payments. The advertising budget goes straight to the platforms from your card and never passes through us. The work is paid for separately, and its price is named at the second step, after the review — before the review any figure would be guesswork. The balance between the two is set out at the same point: what goes to the platforms each month and what the work on them costs. Both numbers are in front of you before anything is signed.

How large does the advertising budget need to be?

No number here: it is one thing for a dental practice in Prague and another for a construction firm covering the whole country. The logic is that the budget has to buy enough clicks and conversions, otherwise the platform’s automation has nothing to learn from and you have nothing to decide on. On a small budget the scope narrows — one platform, one city, a short list of queries — instead of spreading across everything.

Who owns the ad account and the data?

You do. The Google Ads, Meta and Sklik accounts are registered to your company and paid from your card, directly to the platform. We receive access, not ownership: the access is removed with one click inside your account, without us. The campaigns, the history and the data sit in your account throughout — while the work runs and after it.

Is there a contract, and can I leave?

The contract is written, and it states the scope of work, the reporting and the way the arrangement ends. Leaving is possible, on terms that are in the contract and discussed before signing rather than after. To be straight about timing: the first month to six weeks goes on setup and gathering data, and before that there is nothing to read a result from.

How soon will there be a result?

Three different things sit behind this question. Clicks arrive from the first day after launch; data solid enough to change something takes weeks; payback depends on your sales cycle — in some trades the decision is made on the day of the click, in others it is discussed for months. On top of that, the ad’s position is recalculated at every single search: bid × quality, against whoever else is bidding that day, and nobody outside the auction can guarantee it. So what is promised is visibility, not a result: every step is visible in your account.

What language will we work in?

Czech, English or Russian, whichever suits you. Correspondence and reports come in your language; documents are drawn up in Czech and then gone through with you in the language you speak. Advertising in different languages runs separately: Czech-speaking and Russian-speaking audiences search with different words, and one campaign for both bids badly in both.

Contact

It starts with a call, not a contract

Twenty minutes on the phone is usually enough to tell whether there is work here and whether it fits the budget.

  • You get Vadim Kryuchkov — the same person who then runs the campaigns.
  • On the call: what you already have set up, what can be checked in the numbers, and where it makes sense to start.
  • What will not happen: a slide deck or pressure. You decide in your own time.

The Google Ads, Meta and Sklik accounts are registered to your company and stay with you, history included. Access is removed with one click from your side.
